Salons scheduled to reopen May 25th

As salons, nail salons, barber shops and spas are reopening on May 25th all technicians, managers and owners have new lists of requirements; please show some grace, courtesy and patience as they learn to navigate these new procedures and allow additional time between each and every guest for sanitation and disinfection purposes. Don't forget to tip you stylists.



Licensed Cosmetologists, Nail Technicians, Estheticians and Barbers are all trained and required to use EPA registered disinfectants. Most technician have competed the Barbicide Covid-19 Certification Course.


Here are some of the new guidelines by the Kentucky State Board of Cosmetology, Kentucky Board of Barbering and OSHA.


Salons:


Appointments and Walk-in Establishments:

*Appointments should be made through telephone, text message or online.


*Walk-in salons are required to have a number system or check in system that can be available either outside the door or just inside the door.


Waiting Time:

*Clients are asked to wait outside the salon or in their vehicle until they can be seen, they may either be contacted or their number will be displayed by their stylist or technician


**Please allow plenty of time between each guest for proper sanitation**


Each guest will be asked:

➢Have you had a cough?

➢Have you had a fever?

➢Have you been around anyone exhibiting these symptoms within the past 14 days?

➢Are you living with anyone who is sick or quarantined?


People that answer yes are asked to leave the facility until they are fever free with no evidence of Covid-19.


The Salon Floor:

*There should be 6 feet in between each station, some salons may create dividers or shields between stations.


*The amount of people allowed in the salon will be limited and will change with each phase of reopening


Personal Protective Equipment

*Masks-employees are required to wear masks at all times, guests should wear masks to the fullest extent possible or will be supplied with a clean towel to hold over the mouth and nose.


*Face Shields or Safety Glasses- it is recommended that employees wear face shields or safety glasses while performing a service


*Gloves- It is NOT recommended that employees wear disposable gloves when servicing guests however, stylists should continue to wash hands with warm soapy water for a minimum of 20 seconds in between every guest and as frequently as possible.


*Capes- Each guest should be draped with a clean cape and a neck strip. Capes should be disinfected after every use and laundered at the end of the day


*Smocks- There are no recommendations to wear smocks/ gowns at this time. Due to the nature of the transmission, this does not offer additional significant protection


*PPE- The items such as gloves, gowns, drapes, linens, towels etc. when used should be cleaned and disinfected or discarded in a closed container immediately after use.


*Retail may be kept out of public reach or displayed in closed glass front cabinets or regularly disinfected high contact areas.


*A disposable tissue or paper towel should be used to remove hair clippings instead of a neck brush/ duster



Reception area:

* All unnecessary items such as magazines, newspapers, service menus and any other unnecessary products or decor should be removed.


*Any self serve items or products should be removed such as coffee stations, candy dishes, product samples or retail


Restrooms:

*Need to be cleaned and disinfected ALL surfaces including floors, sinks and toilet bowls.


*Paper products should be stored in a closed cabinet.


*Trash can should be placed near to the door or within reach of the door.


*Restroom must be supplied with liquid soap and paper towels.


*No cloth towels or hand dryers as they circulate a possible airborne contagion



Employees:

*The use of a thermometer for temperature scanning is optional. Any employee or client that has a temperature above 99F should be send home immediately and not return to the establishment until they have no fever and no evidence of Covid-19
