Our favorite educational show about Mrs. Frizzle and her magic school bus is getting its own live action movie. Lole Lucchese from Scholastic Entertainment says
"We are delighted to bring to life the iconic Ms. Frizzle and her zest for knowledge and adventure in a fresh new way that inspires the next generation of kids to explore science and supports the dedicated teachers who help make science real and accessible for young learners every day." Elizabeth Banks will star as the vibrant Ms. Frizzle for the upcoming movie as well as producer. Her company Brownstone Productions is working with Scholastic Entertainment, Marc Platt Productions and Universal Pictures to make this project happen.
The Magic School Bus was originally a book series by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. The book series was such a success that it became a tv series that went on to become an Emmy nominated series which ran from 1994-1997. Lily Tomlin voiced Ms. Frizzle won the 1996 Emmy for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for the role.
Eventually Netflix picked up its own take on the show, called The Magic School Bus Rides Again where Ms. Fizzle's sister takes over the 4th grade class with field trips and information galore, the role of Fiona Frizzle is voiced by Kate McKinnon. Lilly Tomlin did reprise the role for a few episodes. However the show didn't last as long and ended in its second season.
